Our Community Cats Program provides high-volume spay and neuter services for unowned, free-roaming cats in San Francisco. Through Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR), these cats are humanely trapped by community members, sterilized at the SF SPCA Spay\/Neuter Clinic, and returned to the outdoor locations they call home. This prevents litters, improves cats\u2019 health, and supports a stable, healthy outdoor cat population in our city.<\/span><\/p>\n

Our role <\/span>focuses on trap rentals, education, and referrals to neighborhood resources<\/span>. Community members, independent trappers, and San Francisco Animal Care and Control (SFACC) play essential roles in intake, placement, and on-the-ground trapping.<\/p>\n

Ear-tipping is the universal sign that a cat has been spayed or neutered. The SF SPCA no longer sends volunteers or staff to trap cats on behalf of community members. This shift strengthens program sustainability and ensures resources are focused on high-volume medical care. Cats must arrive in individual humane cat traps or metal transfer cages. For safety, we cannot accept cats in carriers, crates, boxes, or other enclosures.
