Types of Collars<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Flat or Rolled Collar<\/strong>
\nPros:<\/em>
\n\u2022 Used to attach identifications, license, rabies tags for ID purposes.<\/p>\n

Cons:<\/em>
\n\u2022 Does not reduce pulling.
\n\u2022 Dogs can slip out if not properly fitted: Make sure there is just enough slack to fit 2 fingers, and no more than 2 fingers.<\/p>\n

Martingale\/Premier\/Greyhound Collar<\/strong>
\nPros:<\/em>
\n\u2022 Good for dogs who can slip out of collars.
\n\u2022 Adjustable so that it cannot strangle a dog.
\n\u2022 Humane.<\/p>\n

Cons:<\/em>
\n\u2022 Danger of asphyxiation if the loop gets stuck on another dog\u2019s mouth during playtime, or any other object. For this reason, these collars must be removed whenever the leash is removed.<\/p>\n

Head Halter<\/strong>

\n\u2022 Good for training loose-leash walking by redirecting dogs\u2019 attention towards their humans.

\n\u2022 Redirects dog\u2019s attention by turning his body instead of applying pressure on neck.
\n\u2022 Humane.<\/p>\n

Cons:<\/em>
\n\u2022 Must be fitted properly, with proper size harness.<\/p>\n

Back-clip Harness<\/strong>

\n\u2022 Good for dogs with airway medical issues.<\/p>\n

Spray Collar\/Citronella Collar<\/strong>

\n\u2022 Causes discomfort, fear, and pain, sometimes skin irritation.
\n\u2022 Unpredictable sensor\/trigger makes collar an ineffective, inhumane training tool.

Types of Leashes<\/strong><\/h3>\n

4-6 foot Fabric Leash<\/strong>

\n\u2022 Can get tangled or wound around objects and people\u2019s legs.
\n\u2022 Unsafe during play because it can wrap around a dog\u2019s body parts and cause injury<\/p>\n

Retractable Leash<\/strong>

\n\u2022 Can cause serious neck injury if lock is engaged too suddenly, especially while dog is running.
\n\u2022 False sense of control: it is often too late to react if dog is far away and encounters a dangerous situation (dog fight, cars, etc.)
